Revelation

Welcome to Eastertide!
As some of my relatives asked when I mentioned it on Monday: what the heck is that?
For those of us in the church, the season of Easter does not end on Resurrection Sunday. It runs for an additional six Sundays leading up to Pentecost - this year on June 8.
This year for our joyous season, we are going to be studying the book of Revelation. Like so many of the prophecies in the scriptures, the last book of the Bible has already been fulfilled once, and yet still waits to be completed at the end of time.
It is a book full of symbols, analogies, and metaphors. It often causes consternation because it is complex and refuses to be straightforward, except in a few specific moments. And what is more, Jesus warned us not to be too concerned about the day or the hour, because only God truly knows when it is c
oming.
Still, though, there are things to learn from the enigmatic tome that was included in the scriptures from the fourth century onward.
The biggest thing to remember as we approach it is that just like life, Revelation is not simple. There are far more questions than answers. Nevertheless, God still speaks words of love, comfort, and hope that rise above the din.
We just need to be looking for them.
Blessings,
Rev. Janie
